We regularly review our patients’ records to ensure we are offering you the best and most up to date treatments.
Your record shows that you would benefit from statin medication to protect you against the risk of developing a heart attack or stroke. Research shows that people with kidney problems are at increased risk of heart attacks or strokes. This is because there is more likely to be problems with narrowing of blood vessels over time even with minor abnormalities of the kidneys.
Lifestyle is also important to improve your health and reduce the risk of heart disease – a healthy diet, more exercise, losing weight, reducing alcohol and stopping smoking all play a part. The guidelines are now that all patients with chronic kidney disease should be on a cholesterol lowering medication and that your total cholesterol should be less than 4.
We would recommend that you start a medication called atorvastatin 20mg. I have attached an information leaflet about statins.
Please reply to the text sent have sent to you to let us know whether you would like to start medication? If you have further questions we can book you in for a telephone call with our clinical pharmacist.
